The Story Behind the Cup of Agua Tibia
This microlot was grown and processed at Finca Agua Tibia, a historic estate nestled just outside Guatemala City. Boasting a rich heritage and owned by the renowned Castillo family, the land has witnessed a fascinating evolution. From a cattle ranch to a thriving coffee farm, Agua Tibia reflects the family's commitment to sustainable and high-quality production.
Today, the farm is managed by Erick de la Roca, a fourth-generation coffee producer who oversees every aspect of coffee cultivation, from seed to cup. Erick's expertise and dedication, combined with the unique microclimate and fertile volcanic soils of the Fraijanes region, contribute to the exceptional quality of Agua Tibia coffees.
A Legacy of Sustainability
The Castillo family is deeply committed to social and environmental responsibility. They have established the Castillo Cordova Foundation, which supports local communities through initiatives in education and nutrition. This commitment is evident at Agua Tibia, where the farm provides employment opportunities for local residents and prioritizes sustainable farming practices.
About the H1 Hybrid variety
The H1 hybrid is a cutting-edge variety developed through careful cross-breeding of the rust-resistant T5296 and the esteemed Ethiopian Rume Sudan landrace. This unique combination results in a coffee that is not only highly productive and disease-resistant but also capable of producing exceptional cup quality.
