This captivating coffee marks our very first offering from Papua New Guinea, and it's
truly a remarkable discovery. Reminiscent of the vibrant flavours often found in
Colombian and Kenyan coffees, this exceptional bean offers a truly unique flavour
profile. Expect a vibrant cup bursting with juicy berry notes, a touch of dark
chocolate, and a delightful sweetness reminiscent of marshmallows.
A Tale of Terroir
Grown by four dedicated smallholder farmers, this exceptional coffee showcases the unique terroir of the region. Nestled at elevations between 1,700 and 2,000 meters
above sea level, the cool climate of the Eastern Highlands allows the cherries to
mature slowly on the tree, developing complex flavours and a vibrant acidity. The
surrounding landscape, dominated by the majestic Mt. Otto, provides the perfect
environment for these beans to thrive.
A Land of Coffee Diversity
Coffee cultivation in Papua New Guinea has a fascinating history. While other parts of
the world embraced coffee cultivation earlier, it wasn't until the late 1920s that
commercial coffee production took root in this island nation. This unique blend of
history and modern farming practices contributes to the distinctive character of Papua
New Guinean coffees.
Unlike many coffee-growing regions dominated by a single varietal, Papua New
Guinea is known for its diverse coffee offerings. This is due to several factors,
including the unique geography, varied altitudes, and the dedication of smallholder
farmers who cultivate a variety of heirloom Arabica beans, like Typica, Arusha and
